Weekend Vocab – “Meritocracy”

The word of the week is: Meritocracy.

We are all familiar with this system from our school days. “Johnny, you won the spelling bee, move your desk to the head of the class.”

Meritocracy is currently in the spotlight as a counterpoint to affirmative action. Those opposed to affirmative action feel that America is capable of rewarding advancement based on a system of meritocracy, and that those who “can,” will.

Let’s open a can of worms. What do you guys think?
